LIVE!

“Sometimes I arrive too early. I rush, and some people cling longer to life than expected.”

Marcus Zusak, The Book Thief

This is an opening quote from the new book we are reading in our WCYA book club. It really grabbed me because it is said by the character in the book known as Death.

Isn’t it so true? Death comes too early for some, too quickly for others, and others cling longer. We are all afraid of it, but yet it is the only known in our lives.

“Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live.”
Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

How are you living?

  1. The title of this post reminded of the end of Ned Vizzini’s book called It’s Kind of a Funny Story (http://www.amazon.com/Its-Kind-Funny-Story-Vizzini/dp/078685197X). It was made into a movie by the same name. I’d highly recommend it if you haven’t read it–along with his other books. (I own it in paperback if anyone in the young adult group wants to borrow it.)
Anyway, I don’t feel like typing the entire quote, but it here are parts of it that I try to do/ones I agree with: “Read…Write a thank-you note. Hug your mom….Volunteer…Help people…Travel….Smile. Laugh…So now live for real, Craig. Live. Live. Live. Live” (443-444). That reminds me–I should volunteer more. Thanks for this post, Joy!
